Internet Business Rip-Offs To Avoid
For most of my fifty year old life, I have made my living working with small and midsize companies in helping them achieve their marketing goals. I clearly recall how the internet came on the scene, as it soon became obvious to us marketers that the web wasn't just a former military application, indeed not; instead it was a slow but steady "game changer" for most marketing strategists, but only a few pioneers were attempting to harness this new medium for major brand and product awareness to platform their goods and services. Fast-forward to today, there are plenty of businesses who are attempting to take full advantage of the commerce that takes place on a daily if not hourly basis on the web. The evolution of this medium has led us to a lot of dark places, as some of these websites, we probably wouldn't go to in real life without a loaded gun. Some of these sites are simply Internet business rip-offs.
There are so very many swindlers out there on the Internet that my wife and I almost gave up on trying. But after careful examination on a lot of promising business models that are designed to work for anyone with a computer and half a brain, I have found that there are indeed some extremely worthy web businesses out there that can actually make you enough money to call it your "job". In fact, with a little patience and creativity, you might make it a career that will support you into retirement. I plan to journalize all of the web lessons that I have learned over the years, but for now, here are a few of the pitfalls that you that you will want to avoid when steering clear of Internet business rip-offs:
1. Don't bother with the free gift card offers, free iPad 3 offers or free humango flat screen TV offers, because if you ever get to the point where you actually qualify for the rewards as per the fine print, you will have done so much work, and exposed yourself to various costs from other corresponding offers, that you will feel like they owe you much more than you might collect for the original "free offer".
2. In relation to number 1, there are a number of businesses on the internet that are designed for the 'free" offer which requires little or no money, but you must post a credit card for the trial period, and once the trial is finished you must cancel or be charged...every month! Some of the products and services are fine, but most are of these businesses hope that you don't cancel, and forget about the reoccurring charges for a good long while; so you must be vigilant about these business models. Even if you are on the business side of the offers, it's hard to have a career or any longevity when you business model is based on hoping people forgot that they ever bought your product.
3. Be careful of businesses that only sell you e-books with no back office support that you can call and speak to a person. Sure some of these e-books are worth the money, but if it promises to change your financial life, I can promise you that you will have some questions that only a live person can best resolve... and heaven help you if your computer crashes and you haven't backed up your files.

Focus on the Positive and Gain Momentum
This week has been amazing! Something great happened on the weekend, that I can't share just yet, but it proves that what you focus on multiplies.
This week's article is on just that. Focus on the positive to create momentum and results in your business. Read on for practical tips.
I had a friend unsubscribe from my newsletter this week. It's always interesting to me to see how personally I still take these things. Logically, I know she doesn't run a business and that the content I write about doesn't apply to her. BUT, I can't help but feeling upset about it.
I read an article recently about how women tend to take business personally. The more we can see we are not our businesses, the more clarity we can have around moving our businesses forward.
Here's the thing. As women we're people pleasers by nature. The reality is that not everyone is going to like us and no matter what we do we just won't be able to please everyone. Especially if it means sacrificing our own self-care and happiness. People will be disappointed. As long as we're kind and respectful it's all we can do.
I will focus on the positive feedback I have received surrounding my new affiliate program instead! A lot of people are grateful for this opportunity and it helps them see what is possible for their businesses too.
On that note, it's important to point out that what you track grows. This is why it's so important to focus on the good things happening in your business and not isn't. Try to think about what you have accomplished at the end of the day versus what you didn't get done. Another tactic is to do a budget for your business. The more financially responsible you are the more you show the universe you can handle. Again, what you track grows. I believe this is because your focus is intensified on what you want, thus creating positive energy. You will therefore attract more good things into your life - positive attracts positive. If you're worrying about what you didn't get done, you will just get more to worry about.
Do your best to keep your glass half full. Try to catch yourself when you start to beat yourself up about things. Acknowledge how it makes you feel and then move on. Direct your focus back to what you have done right and what is going well. Reading testimonials is a great way to keep your spirits high and shift a bad mood. You will be amazed at the momentum you gain when you are focused on all things positive. Your business will start growing leaps and bounds! Yay!

Let me start off by saying that as hard as I've tried, I have been unable to find even one complaint about these guys on the Internet. So, let me be the first. I personally tried to do take advantage of this home based business opportunity for a couple of weeks and I can tell you first hand that...
1. They are a legitimate business. They are honest and their support team is responsive and prompt when you need them.
2. Their advertising is tremendously misleading. The whole idea of Project Payday is that you can earn money by signing up for trial offers at IFWs (Incentivized Freebie Websites), and not only do you get to test these products, you get paid by Project Payday for doing so.
For every offer you sign up for, you are awarded a number of points. When you reach a certain point level (which means you've signed up for an average of 10 offers), you will get paid $40-50 for your efforts. While they claim you can make at least a part-time income by just signing up for these trial offers, this is a bogus claim.
Honestly, most of the sites they send you to offer the exact same products. And since you cannot sign up for the same offer twice, it's impossible to make any real money. And not only that, you're going to have to be a CPA (or something equivalent) to keep up with when these trial offers begin and end. These companies that promote these trial offers know that the vast majority of people who sign up for them WILL NOT cancel within the cancellation period.
Therefore, when you "do not" cancel, they're going to be shipping these products to you and be billing you every month. Do you really want a home based business like that? And if you are organized enough to cancel within the appropriate time frame, it is not that easy. Most of these companies put you through a litany of questions of "why you are cancelling" and try to keep you on the phone to offer you something else. Furthermore, you will often have to pay for the shipping when you return a product.
If you choose to get involved with any of these IFWs, let me reiterate one thing - the entire system is contingent on the fact that most people WILL NOT cancel within the allotted period of time and IFWs will ban people that promote cancellations, or help people to cancel.
Of course there are other ways to make money at Project Payday, but it involves getting others to complete these offers for you. It that regard, then, it's mostly a MLM compensation model.
Unless you want a lot of headaches - and a bunch of packages delivered to your door containing products that you really don't want - I would stay away from Project Payday and all the other companies involved in the world of IFWs. There are plenty of companies that also offer a legitimate home based business opportunity - without all the hassle.

Working From Home: How to Create a Passive Income Business Model
Most employment models work on the basis of exchanging your time for money. So you work a set number of hours and are paid an hourly, or a daily, or a yearly rate, at whatever salary you receive. The trouble with this model is that you only have a certain number of hours in the day for which you can charge. Which is fine if you're able to charge something like £50+ for an hour of your time, but unfortunately not many of us can get away with that (sadly). When you first set up your business working from home, you might not realise that there is an alternative way to work.
If you decide to follow the 'time for money' model in your business, you're going to run up against another problem. While you may work a 40 hour week, it's unlikely you'll be able to actually earn money for each of those forty hours. At least some of your time will be taken up with 'non-billable' activities, such as marketing, administration, research, general business housekeeping and so forth. So you may actually only be able to charge for, say, 25 hours a week rather than 40.
When you factor in all of the other expenses you incur in running your own business - accountancy fees, setting aside a proportion of your earnings for tax and so forth - you may actually find that you're working at a loss. Not good - and definitely not sustainable. Wouldn't it be better to work to a business model that frees you from the tyranny of swapping time for money?
When you work for yourself, you can use this opportunity to try and create income streams and a business model that doesn't involve charging for your time. And this can really move you to a position of financial freedom.
There's no one specific definition of passive income but I like to describe the concept as 'income that doesn't require constant work to maintain it'.
If you own a rental property, for example, the monthly rent you receive could be described as passive income (providing you're not spending days each month chasing your tenants for rent, doing house maintenance and so forth). If you write an eBook and automate the process of selling it by using a digital services provider like e-Junkie, then any money from eBooks sold would be classified as passive income.
Passive (or, as some call it, 'residual') income is a big topic. It's a great concept, because it frees you from the tyranny of only having a certain amount of hours in the day to be paid for.
One way you can begin to build a passive income revenue stream is to leverage the knowledge that you already have and package it up in a form that you can sell. So if you're a gardener, for example and you know a lot about certain types of plants, you could leverage that knowledge in several different ways:
Write a book or an eBook on specific plants and growing techniques
Create an eBook of garden design
Create a series of video tutorials on how to garden or how to grow specific types of plant
Create an e-course on different gardening techniques
Write a monthly subscription-only gardening newsletter
